| WHO ARE YOU |

01.) What are your goals in life?I want to proofread/edit books. I also want to write as much as possible and hopefully get my own work published. I want to get citizenship and move to England (American here). I’m about to start work writing a television drama with a friend, which we intend to pitch to various studios when we complete it. In the interim, I just need to find a better job. And ultimately, I want to live a full and satisfying life that doesn’t involve working myself to death; I’ve always cared more about time than about money.

02.) What do you care about most?I care more about the man I love than about even myself, and I would do anything for him, even if it means putting his wishes, needs, and desires before my own (though I know he’d do the same, so that’s okay).

03.) What is one thing you would change about the world today?Well, since it’s voting season here in the USA, I really wish more people would actually take the trouble to get informed about issues before they vote on them! My own mother (whose political views are the complete opposite of mine) told me the other day that she has no idea who any of the candidates are or what they stand for, but she’s still going to vote. I was appalled. I mean, I know that happens, but her saying that (and not caring a bit when I tried to explain how awful that was) really brought it home for me.

04.) Is there anything in your life that you regret? My sister and I were essentially enemies for years. It definitely is not all my fault, but I seriously misjudged her character, and I felt a great deal of shame learning that she wasn’t who I’d believed she was and that I had put her down and treated her like garbage for the longest time, when, if I’d been patient and talked to her, I’d have learned there was more to what was going on than I thought. I’m very grateful that we’re such good friends now.

05.) Describe your top positive characteristics.I’m fun, I’m witty, I make people laugh, even ones I don’t even know (and I love doing it!). I’m creative; I can usually turn anything from my life into an engaging story. It’s sort of what I live for. I am there for my friends when they need me. I have a smile that multiple people have told me “lights up the room”. I feel very deep love, affection, and empathy for the people in my life. I am very stubborn and will not let other people tell me how to live my own life. I am (and this may not be positive to others, but I happen to think it is) a spelling/grammar snob. I take great pride in my ability to speak and write properly.

06.) Describe your top negative characteristics.I get angry very quickly when things aren’t going my way. I have to work to restrain myself from throwing temper tantrums or taking it out on the people around me, even those who are completely unrelated to the problem. This also tends to come along with spite, pride, and vindictiveness…like, I fly into a blind rage and can’t seem to sort my feelings out. I also have trouble focusing on tasks that don’t interest me. I sometimes have trouble committing—I like to start awesome projects, to plot them out, but I can get bored easily and lose interest. Or other times it’s the other way around, that I can’t get started without a shove, but once in, I race to the finish. Also, I can be somewhat judgmental and easily annoyed.

07.) Pick a favorite quote and explain what it means to you.Can I use one I made up myself? If so, then I present you with: “If you don’t do something you might regret, then you’ll never know if you might not have regretted it.” I use this all the time because I get so sick of people who say “Don’t do something you might regret” when what they really mean is not to even bother with something they wouldn’t do themselves, or that they don’t think is a good idea…. Who cares if they wouldn’t do it, or if they don’t think it’s a good idea? If I think it’s right for me in my own life, and I want to try it, you have no business telling me I can’t or shouldn’t simply based on you. ...And if I have to use an actual quote that I didn’t make up, then here’s this one, from my favorite all-time book (and movie, but the quote is from the book), The Princess Bride: “Fencing. Fighting. Torture. Poison. True love. Hate. Revenge. Giants. Hunters. Bad men. Good men. Beautifulest ladies. Snakes. Spiders. Beasts of all natures and descriptions. Pain. Death. Brave men. Coward men. Strongest men. Chases. Escapes. Lies. Truth. Passion. Miracles." ...Why? Because it’s a perfect description of my life.

08.) Who is your favorite Harry Potter character?God, too many to count, but you were kind of specific here by making “character” singular…okay, assuming we’re counting characters who were actually alive in the series timeline, I guess it would be Snape. I love the fact that he did everything, putting himself in constant mortal peril, for the girl he loved, even though she was no longer, strictly speaking, in his life. Often I find the characters who interest me the most are those who have strayed from the righteous path and done something horrible, but have copped to it in the end and tried to redeem themselves. (Snape, Boromir, Edmund Pevensee, for example.) Yes, they made bad choices, but at the time, they were doing what they believed to be right, and I find that admirable, even though most people don’t. They then learned from their mistakes, which made them even stronger and proved their worth even more by showing that they overcame the temptations of their own souls. (Well, Boromir died right after committing his sins, but he at least admitted he was wrong.) So yeah, Snape rocks.

09.) Least favorite?Ugh, Wormtail. I mean, there are some pretty loathsome characters in this world, but even, say, Lucius or Bellatrix look totally cool while they’re being loathsome! He’s an evil rat who never admitted the error of his ways and never changed. And besides that, he was always too clingy and simpering and annoying. He was never anywhere near the same caliber as his friends and only hung out with them to make himself look better. I never understood how he ended up with that group in the first place.

10.) Who would you have been friends with at Hogwarts?Well, besides the obvious three…this is difficult, because we simply don’t get to know many of them as well as others. I’m going to go with all timelines now, because I definitely would have been friends with the Marauders. (Except Wormtail.) I think out of all characters, I feel the most affinity for Lily and Ginny, so I’d definitely have been friends with them. I find those two very similar in character, and I see myself in them as well. They’re both extremely loyal to the people they love, though also able to stand up to them when they believe them to be wrong. I often have a crush on the hot older boy with glasses. I seriously crush on James, and, like Lily, could see myself being good friends with a young Severus, the strange little kid who is so fascinating and who can show me things about myself I never knew—though not after I heard him talking all that “pureblood” crap. I had enough of that elitism for life, being the poor kid in a small town for 14 years, and I will never be okay with wizards who believe in it. And like Ginny, I could also see myself, when lonely and naive, confessing my troubles to a mysterious, sexy older boy who showered me with attention, even if he might be a bit evil (that would make it more exciting!). I would definitely be friends with the twins. I actually had two friends who I thought behaved just like them in high school and some of the best parts of those entire four years were spent with the two of them. Oh, and Tonks! How could I forget? She’s so wacky and fun! And I’ve got to stop now…on with the next question!

11.) What would you most enjoy about your time at Hogwarts?Probably any moments spent exploring, sneaking around, the intrigue of trying to discover things about the castle that were out of bounds, and why they were out of bounds. Succeeding in situations like that where I shouldn’t and all odds are against me—it gets my blood going and urges me forward. Even in real life, I thrive at sneaking into dark, fenced off areas with “Private Property” marked on them, or into UCLA where only students are allowed to be, or trying to get away with things like convincing the hosts at a restaurant that I have Steven Spielberg waiting outside and we would like to be seated now, despite the long wait. (And no, I’m not making any of this up.) Generally taking dares that everyone says can’t be done and which no one else even wants to attempt…those are usually the best moments. So I love that kind of stuff.

12.) Describe each of the four houses as you see them:
Gryffindor:Gryffs understand that you only earn true friends by being one in return. They’re random and wild and exciting and fun. They are chivalrous and will go out of their way to help other people, because doing so brings them happiness and fulfillment. They prefer their own way of doing things, rather than having others tell them how to do things. Along that same line, they run the risk of doing things too much their own way and not taking others into consideration. Their need to control things in their own lives sometimes extends to wanting to control others’ lives as well. But they will defend themselves and their friends when they feel they are treated poorly by others. They are likely unwilling to accept others’ views of “right” when it differs from their own. They also hold others to their own standard: They expect from other people the same confidence and loyalty as what they themselves put forth.

Hufflepuff:Hmm…naturally, Puffs are harder to define than the other houses, as they are defined as “the rest”. For this reason, they are very hard workers, because they would feel they really have to prove themselves and shape their character. Perhaps they are the house of “ordinary people”, and the other three are the houses of three varieties of crazy eccentrics? Haha. They’re probably overlooked a lot and feel the need to compensate for this. They’re the house of hard work, diligence, and patience, and probably more than the others understand that they need to earn their achievements, and the respect that comes with them. Again, like with Claws, they probably take themselves a bit too seriously a lot of the time. They’re very loyal friends, like Gryffs, and will defend their own; however, they won’t go out of their way to help someone else if it interferes with their own lives. They are definitely not traitors, but I think they would put themselves first rather than take the time and effort to help someone else.

Ravenclaw:They’re certainly known for being the house of knowledge and learning, and the world definitely needs more of this kind. They work very hard, but they love every bit of it. Patience with other people is something I think a Claw would have to learn over time. They’re the know-it-alls of the world, and they have well earned that status (not in a bad way), but I imagine they might look down on others who don’t spend as much time as they do in the books, which might cause them to be somewhat snippy at times. I also feel they take themselves way too seriously and rarely take the time to relax and have a laugh. Another thing: Knowledge is not the same as wisdom, as wisdom comes with experience, not simply through reading. Sometimes you have to live through things to have an adequate understanding of them, and I could see a Claw not comprehending that, believing themselves prepared for most scenarios, which could set them up for serious disappointment.

Slytherin:This is a very proud house. Slyths are often misguided, because what is most important to them in life is usually themselves—not the person they are, but the person they appear to others. When it comes down to it, a Slyth will choose to take more power for himself rather than to help another person, even when this person is a friend. There’s a good reason why so many sociopaths come from this house. There is so much old blood in Slytherin that they often feel they are owed things—power, fame, and wealth—because they’ve always had it, or their parents or families have had it. They believe they don’t need to earn the respect they have always had, but instead it should be given to them. Therefore, they will use other people if and when they feel it necessary.

13.) Which house do you feel the least affinity for?I guess I’d have to say Ravenclaw. I just don’t see that house as having any kind of fun ever, and I even like to read and learn! I just don’t see myself fitting into a place where there is zero time for play or a sense of humor.

I definitely vote for Gryffindor. :D
You strike me as the kind of gal who can only be the head strong hero type. ;3

I started out reading this and thinking Ravenclaw, but it quickly became clear that you belong firmly ensconced within the ranks of Gryffindor. ;)

Like whoa. At first your app had me leaning in the 'Puff direction with your answer to number two. But through reading, there's definitely red and gold in your blood (don't worry, that's figurative, I promise). You're adventurous, curious, and even admit to being prideful and prone to bouts of rage, all which tip things over into the Gryffindor spectrum in my eyes rather than Hufflepuff.

Good luck with the rest of your sorting!

I actually see a lot of Ravenclaw in this. I don't agree with your assessment of 'Claws being humorless (I mean, "wit beyond measure is man's greatest treasure" and all) and it's the Hufflepuffs who are "unafraid of toil"--not that 'Claws aren't hard workers, just that it's not one of their defining traits. I could see you fitting in with the Ravenclaws pretty well.

However, there is so much Gryffindor in this app, it's hard to ignore. I think a lot of your 'Claw traits fuel your Gryffindor traits (informing yourself so that your actions are more meaningful, for instance; I feel 'Claws are more about informing themselves for the knowledge's own sake).
