01.) What are your goals in life? Career wise, to be the director of an archaeological lab. I currently do historic analysis but would like to add on some conservation, so I can use my chemistry again. I'd also like to get the opportunity to do more full scale interpretation of sites instead of just writing glorified lists of artifacts.
On the less career oriented stage, I'd like to learn how to draw -- well. This goal is actually one of the few things I found that I'm willing to continue to try despite the fact that I'm not that good.
02.) What do you care about most? This question is so nebulous. I mean, I spend the largest amount of time in my life sustaining that life in some manor of comfort -- but then I suppose most people do, its called work. Alternatively, I could say music (or really singing) as I have found that if I cut all opportunities of organized singing out of my life I start to go stir crazy. Or, I could answer with the underlying motivation for most of my actions, which is that I want to be the person people count on, to be absolutely essential to all tasks but not in the spotlight.
03.) What is one thing you would change about the world today? I would engender a greater respect for resources, so they could be both better protected and better distributed. I think that would solve a lot of problems
04.) Is there anything in your life that you regret?Not in a real way. There are a handful of things I would do differently if I had the chance to do them over, but all of them are things that I couldn't have known to do differently at the time. For example, taking theater instead of french my senior year of high school -- I had no way of knowing that the french teacher didn't have a real syllabus and that the class would end up being a waste of time. I don't have anything that I think back on and am disappointed in myself for the path I took.
05.) Describe your top positive characteristics.
- Pragmatic In a group, I very good at being the person who can listen to everyone else's ideas and weed out what can realistically be done and how it can be done. Like wise I good at reining things in when necessary and the nitty-gritty of implementation.
- Self-Relient/Independent I hate to ask for help, so I am very good to teaching myself skills. If something in my apartment breaks, my first thought is to look up what the likely problem is and how to fix it, rather than immediately calling the land lord. When I wanted to learn how to knit, I bought a book and followed the instructions. This same spirit of self dependence means that if I want to do something, be it see a movie, try a new restaurant, or even go on a trip and no one else I know wants to, I simply do it by myself. Being alone is never a problem for me.
- Up For a Challenge I thrive on challenge. There is nothing I like better than just being thrust into a situation and forced to sink or swim. I added a second major in Chemistry, partially because I was bored without taking the maximum amount of classes possible, and partly because everyone talks about how difficult Organic Chemistry is. I constantly seek out new and different techniques in knitting -- the more difficult they are supposed to be, the better. The absolute easiest way to get me to do something, is to say that it is hard.
- Low Drama In general, Drama annoys me so I simply refuse to participate in it. I often hear from my friends that they appreciate the way I create a sense of calm and put forth solutions as I see them.
- Look for the Best in People I don't think most people I know would pick this out as one of my characteristics. I am the kind of person who can be annoyed with lots of little things -- and I have long perfected the eye roll. However, I try to look at other people's actions in the best possible light.
06.) Describe your top negative characteristics.
- Overly reserved I have an extremely hard time opening up to and trusting people. It is very much easier for me to hold them at arms length. I rarely show emotion. I don't get excited about a lot of things or at least my excited bares more resemblance to others normal than it does to any kind of slue. I even have a hard time using capslock because it just doesn't seem like me.
- Judgemental Not so much in the many "isms", I have opinions on most things and my gut tends to forget that other people are allowed to have different opinions or like something different (though I certainly know it intellectually). I'm definitely the person who bonds by mocking -- though I try to keep it gentle and of people further removed from myself.
- I don't know how to do a key word for this, but I'm really bad at playing the game. I have a hard time sublimating myself in order to conform to the desires of a person in power, no matter what it might gain me in the end. I just have a very strong sense of self, though that self is really very quiet and polite.
- I tend to avoid things I am bad at. Most things, certainly academic things, have always come easily to me, so I never really learned how to persevere in the face of adversity. If I don't pick something up right away, I have a tendency to decide that I just don't like it and never look back. I've had an extreme dislike of writing ever since the first grade when I couldn't make my words sound like the stories I liked to read.
07.) Pick a favorite quote and explain what it means to you.
Every time I put this down as my quote I worry that people will think it terribly depressing, it is not supposed to be.
"When you know you can't have what you want, where's the profit in wishing." - Stephen Sondheim (through the Baker's Wife)
I just can't get away from my practical nature. I always have to have a goal of some sort, but those goals need to be reachable. Maybe a little bit of a stretch, but taking on something that you just can't do -- I find that depressing.

08.) Who is your favorite Harry Potter character? Neville. I usually put it as "it is better to be great despite everyone's doubts than because of everyone's praise." I just love Neville's journey, and I love the fact that knowing where he ends up, you can pick out seeds of his character in the earlier books that I at least missed the first time too.
09.) Least favorite? I feel like it is a cop-out to put one of the Villians here, so I'm going to go with someone I'm supposed to like, but don't. Sirius Black. From flashbacks, he is cocky, overly fond of himself, and does the thing I hate where he pitches his voice too loud for personal conversations so that everyone in the area has to be focused on him. I found the "pranks" that we hear about to be more mean-sprited than good-natured. As an adult, I find him whiney.
10.) Who would you have been friends with at Hogwarts?
Harry. He very much speaks to the combination of introversion and fun loving that I find in my best friends. I need friends who will enjoy more quiet activities in small groups, but who can tease me out of being overly serious -- I find the descriptions of nightly hanging around Gryffindor tower to be pretty perfect. I can't quite decide if Hermione and I would be BFF or absolutely hate each other. I feel like we fill very similar roles in our groups of friends, so that we would either find in each other a kindred spirit or would be constantly vying for that same position.
11.) What would you most enjoy about your time at Hogwarts?
I've always loved to learn new things so I'm sure I would enjoy the classes. I also think I would enjoy the sense of belonging to a house.

13.) Which house do you feel the least affinity for? Hufflepuff. I've had various other people tell me that they see Hufflepuff in me, but I've always had a hard time seeing it for myself. I think part of it that from the outside it looks like I work harder than I actually do, a consequence of both skills coming easily to me and my need to be the "go to girl". I also feel kind of alienated from the "loyalty" descriptor, mostly because I feel more loyalty to ideals than I do to people.

Gryffindor: Gryffindor is the house of quixotic people. They require windmills to tilt at and will make them up if they can't find one ready made. They are mostly excitable and loud spoken, but even when not, backing down is NEVER and answer.
Hufflepuff: Hufflepuffs are the revolutionaries. Before making up a windmill, Gryffindors would do well to ask a Hufflepuff because they see all the worlds ills. They, however, realize that people more often change through love and acceptance instead of a swift kick to the head.
Ravenclaw: Ravenclaws live in the mind. The world is something to engage with to get ideas, be they the hard facts of a more academic Ravenclaw or the inspirations of the more creative sort.
Slytherin:Slytherins get things done. They can, for a time, take on the characteristics of any other house, if that best serves their purpose. They have few illusions about either themselves or others.
